People Power Equips Premier Senior Care Agency with a 24/7 Home Monitoring Care Solution

Strategic relationship with TheraCare focuses on combining advanced remote monitoring with in-person care services for higher quality senior care at lower costs

People Power, developer of smart home and senior care services today announces a strategic relationship with TheraCare Inc., a popular caregiving agency focused on safe home environments and customized care for seniors and persons with disabilities. The relationship will result in a remarkably powerful combination of advanced senior care smart home solutions by People Power, and TheraCare’s expertise in delivering high-value services with their staff of accomplished physical therapists, geriatric care managers and highly trained care professionals. TheraCare will facilitate the deployment of the Presence Family Care solution through their home care provider channel to enable services designed for improved connectivity, transparency and collaboration with clients and their families. The companies are working together toward commercializing today’s best smart home technologies to better serve the home care industry and people in need of care.

“The relationship we’ve built with TheraCare provides a channel to market capable of bringing our senior care support solutions to the people who need it most, and quickly,” said Gene Wang, CEO and cofounder of People Power Co. “With a decade-long track record of smart home technology advancements – particularly in the area of caregiver and family-centric design with integrated social connectors – our senior care solution is perfectly suited to address the overwhelming market need to help seniors live in their homes longer.”

Presence Family Care gives agencies like TheraCare the ability to quickly offer an additional product line that provides remote monitoring 24 hours a day, seven days a week to supplement in-person resources featuring easy-to-install devices, automated alert distribution and emergency call center connectivity. With data pulled into the system through in-home sensors, care providers can now gain important insights to help qualify the amount of support their clients need as they age. Presence Family Care provides home care agencies new revenue streams and important market differentiation while reducing the need for additional staffing.

“Since we began in 2012, TheraCare has specialized in serving clients with higher physical care needs, especially those transitioning to home care from a therapy setting,” said Greg McCarthy, CEO of TheraCare. “To do that successfully, it’s essential to provide caregivers with additional training and tools so they’re able to replicate the services that were being provided to clients prior to transition. Partnering with People Power to enable new, highly efficient home care tools gives our company the ability to grow and stay at the forefront of our industry without the additional staff demands commonly associated with new service offerings.”

The system’s intelligence is fueled by continuous streams of sensor data which automatically creates a pattern of normal daily activities and can generate alerts to a Trusted Circle of caregivers and family members about situations of concern. The Presence Family Care solution brings together agencies, caregivers, clients and their families for improved visibility and superior senior care services. It can warn caregivers about incidents including falls and inactivity, wandering, sleep monitoring, bathroom activity, medicine adherence, refrigerated medicine monitoring, water leak detection and more. Presence Family Care reminds family and friends to connect with their senior loved ones to reduce isolation and loneliness. The solution is expandable with today’s popular devices including Amazon Alexa and Google Home, smart plugs, sirens, video cameras, smart lighting and more.

“At long last, we believe technology – as seen with the People Power solution – is now capable of addressing the needs of the senior care industry. Helping professional caregivers to better serve their clients by providing 24/7 monitoring and perfectly tuned care services at a much lower cost has long been the goal. We now have the solution,” said Mark Dunning, CEO of AHI Group, Inc. “While the cost of 24/7 senior care ranges between $10,000 and $25,000 per month, the remote monitoring capabilities of Presence Family Care enable seniors to confidently stay in their homes longer at a significantly reduced cost.”

Georgia Tech and People Power Collaborate on Senior Care Project

Researchers will use the software company’s smart home platform to study mild cognitive impairment with goal of supporting older adults as they age in place.

Georgia Tech’s Institute for People and Technology (IPaT) and IoT software company People Power are working together to collect and analyze data from in-home sensors as part of a study to better understand certain behaviors of people with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). The neurological condition creates increased challenges with memory, problem-solving, and spatial ability. As part of the Cognitive Empowerment Program (CEP), Georgia Tech researchers first explored the People Power IoT System in the technology-equipped Aware Home, a 5,000 square foot home designed to facilitate research.

“Collaborating with Georgia Institute of Technology’s Aware Home Research Initiative is a real honor for our company,” said Gene Wang, CEO and cofounder of People Power Co. “As a technology provider for senior care solutions that address technical, design and social challenges of aging, we are delighted to assist in this important research initiative with one of the top research universities in the country.”

The CEP’s technology team focuses on designing interventions and applications, as well as collecting data in the homes of study participants including sleep patterns, bathroom and kitchen habits, and more. The team will use the data to empower CEP members and their care partners, through mobile apps, in-home interventions supporting independence, and by sharing key information with the CEP therapeutic team to identify where members may need further training on strategies to compensate for cognitive impairment. In the Aware Home Research Initiative (AHRI), the People Power IoT System will provide device and data management and a framework for creating machine learning microservices, allowing researchers to more effectively conduct long-term studies and collect and view data.

“Changes in daily habits provide key indicators for informing lifestyle interventions that combat decline in cognitive function,” said Elizabeth Mynatt, executive director of the Institute for People and Technology and co-director of the CEP technology core. “Through this collaboration, we have the unique opportunity to collect critical data to inform care and empower people with MCI and their care partners.”

People Power is a leading provider of consumer and institutional services for senior care, energy management and home security. The company’s recent introduction of a comprehensive senior care solution that brings together agencies, caregivers, clients and families reconfirms People Power’s mission of helping with life’s important challenges with easy-to-use technology.

“What People Power is providing is the opportunity to hit the ground running on this project,” said Brian Jones, director of the Aware Home initiative. “We can have different studies running, view all of the homes in each study, and through a web browser we can see the status of in-home devices that provide the system with data.” Although the collaboration between IPaT and People Power currently focuses on adults with MCI, Jones envisions expanding it to other data science research at Georgia Tech.

People Power Launches the Presence Family Care Pack, a Remote Senior Care Solution for Families and Caregivers

First-of-its kind IoT solution uses machine learning algorithms to learn patterns of behavior and
alert when dangerous events may be happening to dramatically lower costs of 24/7 senior care

PALO ALTO, Calif., Oct. 08, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) —  People Power, the world’s leading software company for custom branded consumer services for senior care, security and energy management, today launches the Presence Family Care Pack – a first-of-its kind remote senior care and family connectivity product. The intelligent solution, backed by world-leading academic research, incorporates People Power’s patent-pending machine learning algorithms to continuously learn patterns of behavior in the home. Using AI-powered fall detection, Presence Family Care also provides critical insights and alerts to monitor seniors around the clock and enhance peace of mind for families and caregivers.

The Presence Family Care Pack includes one Smart Home Center gateway that connects a home to an intelligent cloud, two entry sensors to detect when doors, medicine cabinets and/or refrigerators are opened or closed, and three motion sensors to generate alerts when potential falls or wandering occur. The solution combines a mobile app with intelligent cloud services, voice control and low-cost sensors and distributes SMS text alerts about situations that need immediate attention to the senior’s Trusted Circle™, which can include up to 10 individuals. Anyone in the Trusted Circle who receives an alert can simply tap the phone number provided in the text message to facilitate direct phone contact with the Presence Family Emergency Call Center.

Senior care assistance features include:

  • Coordinated Call Reminders: Family members of all ages can receive reminders to reach out to their loved ones.
  • Failure to Return: Know if occupants did not return home by an expected time.
  • Bathroom Activity: Check for issues related to dehydration, diabetes, sickness or falls with a motion sensor positioned in the bathroom.
  • Late Night Activity: Know if there’s movement around the home at night, well after bedtime.
  • Know What’s Happened: Check-in 24 hours a day to see what’s happened inside the home.

For homes with one senior, additional features include Fall and Inactivity Detection (the solution’s machine learning algorithms detect a lack of movement when historic data would indicate movement should be expected) and Sleep Monitoring (to track sleep patterns, up-at-night frequency and confirm the senior got out of bed in the morning). For homes with multiple occupants, Wandering Detection allows live-in spouses or caregivers to receive an alert if a door opens and a senior with dementia or Alzheimer’s might be wandering away from the home.

“My mom lives by herself and has fallen three times, which is a serious concern to me and our larger family network,” said Gene Wang, CEO of People Power. “We designed Presence Family Care to help seniors like her confidently stay in their homes longer by delivering insights of their day-to-day wellness to their Trusted Circle along with the integrated Presence Family Emergency Call Center for issues that require an urgent response.”

While the Presence Family Care Pack today launched to the general public, People Power also offers white-labeled senior care solutions and has worked closely with industry experts including Tri-Cura Inc. to identify commercial market needs. People Power plans to expand partnerships with businesses in the senior care industry including professional care providers and healthcare solution providers.

“Our elders deserve the right to choose how they want to age. Technology is the only way that aging at home moves from a luxury for a few to a reality for all,” said Greg McCarthy, Founder and CEO of TheraCare. “Having spent 20 years in the health and home care industry, I’ve long waited for the right company to come along with a research-backed approach to respectfully monitor and proactively support an affordable way for seniors to thrive in place. People Power hits it out-of-the-park with Presence Family Care, a customizable solution tailored to an individual’s needs that will allow peace of mind to both our elders and their loved ones – at long last.”

The Presence Family Care Pack is available now at the introductory price of $299 for a limited time. It is designed to perform in homes of approximately 1,500 square feet. For larger living environments, additional motion sensors that extend the service are available for purchase in the Presence Family store, along with other devices aimed at serving a variety of senior care use cases.

If a Care Pack is purchased within 90-days after introduction, the initial three months of service will be provided free – a savings of $119.85. After the free introductory monthly service expires, the Presence Family Monitoring service – including Trusted Circle and Emergency Call Center Monitoring – will cost only $39.95 per month. Care Pack is available for purchase at www.presencefamily.com.

People Power Introduces Artificial Intelligence-Powered Location Detection Microservice Solving Geofencing Limitations for Smart Home Services

Home Occupancy Status Microservice determines home, away, vacation and sleep modes of occupants for innovative security, energy and senior care services

PALO ALTO, Calif., July 10, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Adding to the company’s growing lineup of Artificial Intelligence-powered (AI) microservices for the smart home, People Power, the Internet of Things (IoT) software company providing white-label solutions for home security, energy and senior care service, today announces its new Home Occupancy Status Microservice.

Providing a remedy for poorly performing GPS-based geofencing solutions that require people to carry their phones with them, the new microservice intelligently detects and understands occupancy conditions of a home based on motion patterns derived from activity sensors. Complex occupancy status decisions are made quickly and accurately from sensor data through a combination of patent pending machine learning algorithms, designed to determine the four essential occupancy states of home, away, vacation and sleep along with the transitions between those states. Highly complex algorithms extract several dozen dimensions of occupancy factors in the home from thousands of data points, including the day, time, door activity, motion activity, energy and water use, supporting geofencing data and more.

The Home Occupancy Status Microservice is also capable of knowing when people are asleep to deliver advanced automation, senior care and wellness solutions from understanding a person’s natural sleep patterns. Able to put a home to sleep or wake it up gently to better prepare residents for the day, improvements to a person’s circadian rhythm are possible through sleep predictions to intelligently adjust home temperature and lighting conditions appropriate for the time of day, the day itself, and even the season. Senior care solutions become more intelligent and supportive by understanding away, at home, asleep or awake states of older adults. With its ability to integrate hundreds of wirelessly connected smart home devices from manufacturers including Bosch, Philips, Centralite, Linkhigh International, and others, the new microservice becomes a vital component to People Power’s white label consumer offerings.

“A fundamental technical blocker for the next generation smart home is the phone-based geofencing solutions of today, which sadly cannot keep pace with customer needs,” said David Moss, CTO of People Power. “With our new AI-powered microservice, residents can now enjoy the convenience of having their smart homes automatically switch occupancy modes for greater levels of convenience, ease of use and dependability.”

People Power’s Home Occupancy Status Microservice benefits include:

  • Geofencing without dependence on a smartphone
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) determines occupancy automatically
  • Solves geofencing problems for multi-tenant occupancy
  • Revolutionary development of sleep mode detection
  • The easiest to use geofencing solution anywhere
  • Occupancy modes identified with a minimum of 2 sensors
  • New services are possible for security, energy and senior care

People Power Achieves GDPR Compliance, Names Data Protection Officer

Leading IoT software provider achieves European Union data privacy requirement and appoints veteran Chief Scientist John Teeter as Data Protection Officer

PALO ALTO, Calif., June 18, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — People Power, the Internet of Things (IoT) software company providing white-label solutions for home, security, energy and care, announces compliance with the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), adding to the company’s longstanding commitment to consumer data privacy for IoT solutions. To help oversee GDPR compliance and the company’s data protection strategy, People Power names Chief Scientist, John Teeter, as the company’s Data Protection Officer (DPO).

Enabling privacy for all individuals within the EU, GDPR addresses the export and management of personal data beyond member state boundaries, giving control to citizens and residents over their personal data and simplifying the regulatory environment for international business. Incorporating the privacy by design approach, People Power has enabled auditing and compliance controls to administer GDPR-compliant data processing for business partners delivering the company’s white-label IoT solutions to their customers.

“For smart homes to become truly intelligent, user data collection and analysis is a necessity. That doesn’t mean a privacy tradeoff should exist,” said Gene Wang, CEO of People Power. “To the contrary, smart home data demands more protection than ever before. Unlike companies that sell user data for advertising or research purposes, we never will. It’s a person’s home, so it’s their data. With GDPR compliance, our connected home services allow users complete control of their own data.”

The company also announces the appointment of John Teeter as its Data Protection Officer, following his position as Presidential Innovation Fellow at the White House, where he participated in both My Data and Open Data initiatives within the Executive Branch of the Federal Government, along with driving innovation at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the General Services Administration (GSA). In addition to his responsibilities as People Power’s DPO, Teeter remains the company’s Chief Scientist.
