People Power Company Mission: to provide consumers meaningful and convenient ways to reduce their energy use by delivering cloud-based software solutions that capitalize on the explosive growth of internet connected devices and smart grid infrastructure.

Vision

People Power Company is the leading provider of cloud-based energy management software and hardware to electronic device manufacturers and service providers. We deliver technology that enables residential and commercial end-users to see, understand, and control their energy use. People Power's open Energy Service Platform (ESP) makes sense of vast and complicated real-time information from energy consuming and generating devices and smart grid data. ESP uses behavioral science to provide insight, choice, and easy controls that maximize customers' lifestyle or business demands, anywhere, anytime.

People Power has an experienced team of more than 40 people with expertise in building highly scalable software, sensor networking, energy management, and wireless, with many startup stars.



Gene Wang CEO

Gene Wang is CEO, Chairman and Founder of People Power Company, a green tech startup focusing on Energy Efficiency. People Power is helping consumers save money on their energy bills while helping to save the planet by reducing carbon pollution. Gene was previously CEO and Founder of Bitfone, which he sold to HP in 2007, becoming HP's VP Marketing for the Handheld business unit. Bitfone was the industry leader in Over-The-Air device management solutions for mobile phones, with customers such as Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, LGE and China Mobile. Previously, Gene was CEO and Founder of Photo Access, which sold its hardware business unit to Agilent Technologies and its photo portal to Photoworks, now part of American Greetings. Gene was CEO of Computer Motion, a leader in medical robotics, which he led through a successful IPO in 1997. At Symantec, Gene was Executive VP where he managed four divisions and helped grow annual sales from $172 million to $412 million. Gene was VP and general manager at Borland, where he drove sales of the C++ programming language to over one million copies. Gene earned a bachelor's degree in computer science from U.C. Berkeley. Gene likes to record and play music and is happily married with three children and one bad dog.


David Moss CTO

David Moss is a co-founder of People Power Company with 14-years experience in in wireless sensornets, electrical engineering, computer science, embedded systems, and technology integration with business development. David is the author of several pending patents at People Power, and a co-author on the 'Collection Tree Protocol' publication for one of the most efficient, reliable, and widely used open-source wireless mesh networking protocols. Prior to People Power, David worked with Rincon Research Corporation leading the sensornet engineering team to architect and deploy miniature low-power wireless sensors in some of the most rugged and challenging environments ever faced by sensornet developers. David worked with Bitfone Corporation as both a Java developer and firmware engineer where he integrated Bitfone's revolutionary Over-the-Air Firmware Updates into tens of millions of Motorola cell phones that are currently shipping around the world.

David enjoys playing Chopin on his grand piano, destroying opponents at foosball, and never misses a chance to hit the surf.


Stan Curtis VP Business Development

Stan is a senior business development executive, with experience in startups and global-product and services industries. As a strategy consultant for IBM and Accenture, Mr. Curtis led practices in innovation, collaboration and product supply-chain management. Most recently with IBM, Mr. Curtis is still an advisor in their Smarter Cities research and continues his work with Accenture Fellows on energy-models and performance management. With a systems engineering background, a graduate degree in operations research from Berkeley, and research with MIT, Mr. Curtis is a founding member of IBM's Open Innovation Council and has facilitated several IBM Global Innovation workshops. Recent workshops were featured in IBM Smart Cities research, GOSCON, CEOs for Cities, The Competitiveness Institute, the Congress for New Urbanism and a Masterclass with CK Prahalad. Mr. Curtis is active with Portland/Metro planning experts and is an advisor on Eco-Districts and SmartGrid Oregon.


Bill Bien VP Sales & Marketing

Bill Bien leads People Power's solutions sales, service provider and partner engagement, and marketing efforts. Bill brings to People Power his broad experience in creating and executing marketing, business development, consultative sales and corporate strategies that improve market share, brand awareness, sales growth and bottom - line financial results. He has worked in senior leadership roles at Telstra and at Cisco Systems in a variety of field and operational roles. Most recently he served as the Executive Director for Telstra's Enterprise and Government business unit where he directed enterprise marketing, industry business development, partner negotiations and mergers and acquisitions. Under his leadership his team won global awards for enterprise marketing and brand positioning. Prior to this role, he led Telstra's corporate strategy team, and Cisco's strategic planning team. Earlier work included corporate finance, consultative selling, management consulting at the Boston Consulting Group, and commercial diplomacy. He graduated from Stanford Law School and worked in Asia, Australia, and the United States.


Harri Okkonen SVP of Engineering

Harri is a senior executive, with experience in different positions in startups since 1978. Most recently Harri co-founded the cloud based web application company, Wishfi, which was acquired by D-Link Systems. Before Wishfi Harri was member of the executive team building Bitfone to become a successful technology and market leader in fault tolerant over the air firm ware updates. Bitfone was acquired by Hewlett Packard. In the last years Harri has worked successfully as interim CEO / COO in Korea, India and Finland. Harri has a strong track record of delivering complex scalable products for the marketplace.


John Teeter Chief Scientist

John Teeter brings to People Power a 40 year history in the electrical and technology industries. Most recently, he has engaged in consultations with Masdar, IBM, and CH2M-Hill in the areas of infrastructure systems. John was the founder and CEO of First Step Research, a boutique research consultancy which focused on the evolution of techology. First Step provided community internet services in the early nineties and stimulated the growth of early social networks supporting both local and globally based communities of interest. Prior to First Step Research, John was a founder and VP of Engineering at Gold Hill Computers, bringing the tools and technologies of artificial intelligence research to the commercial marketplace. His early engineering experience with Hewlett-Packard and Honeywell Information Systems focused on international standards in the areas of distributed information systems.


Frank Fu VP and General Manager, China

Frank Fu is a result-driven executive with over 18 years of global experience in consumer sales, business development and technical marketing. He has wide industry experience in Internet applications, telecom services, mobile software, network data communication, and semiconductor technologies.

Most recently, he is CEO of Reach It Media, a leading new media service provider working with China's top TV station, newspaper, and financial magazine to deliver CCTV.com, Global Times, and Caijing Magazine's exclusive content to China Mobile, China Telecom, and China Unicom. Previously, Frank Fu was VP of Asia Pacific for Bitfone winning exclusive agreement with China Mobile, China Unicom, and all major handsets manufacturers and contributing to the $160 Million acquisition of Bitfone by HP. Prior to that, Frank Fu held executive positions at InnoPath, AboveNet, Samsung, Fujitsu, and Antec. Frank has a MBA degree from California State University at San Jose and a BA degree from Midland University.


Vivek Kapadekar Director of Server Engineering

Vivek Kapadekar has over 14 years of experience in Software Engineering and R&D. He brings to the company his expertise in building large scale enterprise and carrier grade servers using JEE technologies and based on open standards. As a Director and Chief Server architect at Bitfone Corporation, Vivek co-authored 5 patents in mobile device management and successfully led a distributed team to develop a highly scalable server for OTA firmware updates and remote diagnostics. Prior to joining People Power Vivek worked as a Lead Architect at HP where he contributed to key framework development and was a nexus between marketing and engineering for defining product road-map.

He is proud to have worked with some very talented people in his past and is equally excited about the energy efficiency space and its immense potential. Vivek is a graduate of Cal State University, Fullerton with a Masters in Software Engineering and earned his Bachelor in Computer Science from University of Mumbai.


Jason Caslavka Creative Director

Jason Caslavka is a usability expert with over 12 years of experience in web design and development. Jason has designed enterprise web applications for large scale businesses like Hewlett-Packard and Sprint and he has also developed web sites and corporate identities for startups like XPAND Corporation and Victory Enterprises. In addition, Jason has worked on retail web stores like Ralph Lauren and designed and built web sites for Federal, County and City governments.

Jason believes the best way to improve usability is by studying your users. Watching your customers interact with what you've designed, identifying the stumbling blocks and making adjustments where necessary is critical to improving customer satisfaction.

Jason likes hiking, biking, camping and pretty much every outdoor activity he's tried.

Josh Becker Board Member

Josh has a long history as a business entrepreneur and a social entrepreneur. He is the co-founder and General Partner of New Cycle Capital, an early stage venture capital firm working with entrepreneurs who want to want to change the world. New Cycle's investments include OPower, Renewable Funding, PeoplePower, GoalSpring, Saber es Poder, and Terrapass. Josh is a National leader in clean energy policy as well as clean energy investing. He is a co-founder of both Cleantech for Obama and the Clean Economy Network.

Previously he was at Redpoint Ventures, DCM, McKinsey & Co, Netscape, and Agile Software. He was the 2nd employee at EarthWeb, which went public in 1998. In 2000 Josh founded Full Circle Fund and continues to serve as Board Chair. He was recently project lead in building GreenCitiesCalifornia.org. For the last six years he has been on the Board of Full Circle Fund grantee, One Economy, and is Treasurer of the Board of Trustees for the University of California at Merced. He has a MBA and JD from Stanford and serves on the Advisory Board for the Stanford Business School Fund.


Charlie Finnie Board Member

Charlie Finnie is the founder and Managing Partner of Greener Capital, a venture capital firm that invests in early to mid-stage companies in the Clean Technology sector. Prior to founding Greener Capital, Charlie was a General Partner at Crosslink Capital, a San Francisco-based venture firm. Prior to that, he was a Senior Research Analyst at Alex. Brown & Sons, and at Volpe, Welty & Co, both technology-focused investment banks. Charlie graduated from Princeton University and has a Master's degree from Columbia University.


Technical Advisory Board


John Teeter, Technology Advisory Board Chairman, has a 40 year history in the electrical and technology industries. Wilfred Pinfold currently serves Director of Extreme Scale Programs at Intel Corporation, where he is responsible for developing long-range technology research programs in areas relating to extreme parallelism, resilience, and energy efficiency. Originally from Johannesburg, Wilfred trained in Naval Architecture and computational fluid dynamics and moved to United States in 1980.

Joe Polastre is co-founder and chief technology officer at Sentilla. Joe is responsible for defining and implementing the company's global technology, product, and market strategy. Winner of the 2009 Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal 40 Under 40 award and named one of BusinessWeek's Best Young Tech Entrepreneurs, Joe often speaks about energy management and the role of physical computing -- where information from the physical world is used to make energy efficiency decisions. Before joining Sentilla, Joe held software development and product manager positions with IBM, Microsoft, and Intel. Joe is active in numerous organizations, including The Green Grid, US Green Building Council, ACM, and IEEE. Joe holds M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from University of California, Berkeley, and a B.S. in Computer Science from Cornell University.

Prof. Banny Banerjee Originally trained as an architect, Banny Banerjee holds graduate degrees in Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, and Design. In India, he worked in the fields of architecture, structural engineering, adobe housing for the rural poor, and low embodied energy building systems. After coming to the US, he worked in the fields of computer simulation for energy in complex systems, software engineering, mechanical engineering, product design, industrial design, furniture design, interactive art, and design strategy. He has worked on projects related to architecture, energy analysis, software design, structural engineering, MEMs applications, nanotechnology, ambient media, object semiotics, space missions for Jet Propulsion Laboratories, low cost structural systems, sustainable design, appropriate technology for third world countries, organizational transformation, technology strategy, and technology art.

Dr. Carrie Armel is a research associate at Stanford's Precourt Energy Efficiency Center (PEEC) where she investigates the diverse ways in which an understanding of human behavior can lead to improvements in energy efficiency. For example, the application of behavioral principles can produce significant energy reductions through interventions implemented at the policy, technology, built environment, media/marketing, and organizational/community levels. Dr. Armel is a past chair of the Behavior, Energy, and Climate Change conference; oversees Precourt Center's Behavior and Energy Bibliographic database and website; and teaches courses on behavior and energy at Stanford.
